What is pre-qualification?

Pre-qualification involves the vetting of suppliers by public sector buyers to identify those able to meet a required contracting standard

The vetting process is usually undertaken by buyers prior to inviting tenders.

Public sector buyers are spending the public purse, - therefore pre-qualification helps them to ensure that suppliers meet the required standards for technical, legal and financial capabilities - thus reducing the risk when awarding a contract.

In the pre-qualification process suppliers are scored against the following:
